SPRING BALANCE This is a simple wooden board of 60*10 cm with glass surface, with a frictionless pulley is fixed to one end, one sliding wooden board is provided to determine the force of friction, supplied with roller and physical weights of 100gms. Theory of this experiment: The force of limiting friction for a rolling body (roller) is the maximum opposition force that resists the initiation of rolling motion when a body at rest is just on the verge of rolling over another surface.
The value of limiting friction depends entirely on the nature and material (smoothness, roughness, hardness, elasticity) of both the roller and the friction board. Smoother or harder materials experience lower deformation, minimizing the limiting force.
