RETORT STAND                                                                                                                PRINCIPLE: The law of moments (or the principle of moments) states that when a rigid body is in rotational equilibrium, the total clockwise moment about a pivot equals the total anticlockwise moment about that same pivot.                                                                   THEORY: Moment of a Force: A moment is the turning effect produced by a force acting on an object around a fixed point, axis, or pivot                                                  Formula: Moment = F × d, where F is the applied force (in Newtons, N) and d is the perpendicular distance from the pivot to the line of action of the force (in meters, m).  Unit of Measurement: Measured in Newton-meters (Nm).                                          Rotational Equilibrium: For an object to remain balanced and not start spinning, the sum of all turning forces acting clockwise must completely cancel out the sum of all turning forces acting anticlockwise.
