Specifications:
Light – Emitting diodes (LED’s) convert electrical energy into light energy. They emit radiation of visible wavelength when they are in “forward biased”. This caused by electrons from ‘n’ region in the LED giving up light as they fall into hales in ‘p’.
We use LEDs in this experiment because each color of LED has different threshold voltage at which electrons starts being produced. Measuring this voltage together with known values for the emission wavelength provides a path to finding a value for the Planck Constant. LED’s work on the principal of electroluminescence.
