SPECIFICATION: The Newton Color Disc (also known as the Newton’s Disc) is a circular disc divided into segments, each painted with one of the seven colors of the visible spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. This disc is often used as a demonstration of the nature of white light and its composition.

When the disc is spun at high speed, the individual colors blur together due to the persistence of vision (the human eye’s ability to retain an image for a fraction of a second after the source has moved). Scientific Significance: Newton’s experiment with the colour disc helped to solidify the idea that light is composed of a spectrum of colours. He used this disc to prove that when the coloured light from a prism was combined, it formed white light, contradicting the earlier belief that white light was pure and undivided.
